Australian cattle and calf production are valued at $12.7 Billion AUD.

Australia produces around 2 million tonnes of beef and veal of which 68% is exported to 77 countries at a value of over $7 Billion AUD.

Australia is the world’s seventh largest beef producer, producing 3% of the worlds beef supply and is the third largest beef exporter.

Australia’s largest beef export market is Japan, followed by USA and South Korea.

Beef cattle are production animals that are specifically bred to provide food for humans. The two main products from beef cattle are beef and veal. Veal is the meat from bee calves that weigh up to 150kg at the time of slaughter. Beef cattle meat is a major product in Australia with average consumption estimated at 33kg per person per year.

The Australian beef industry is dependant on export markets with 68% of production going overseas.

Supplying markets in a manner that ensures the quality and consistency of beef and livestock is crucial to the profitability of a beef cattle enterprise.
